Last month I picked up a collection of parts that claimed to be a 1974 Honda CB125s. Torn apart, top end dissasembled, rotten tires, missing parts, faded paint, torn seat, but somehow an appealing and honest little machine.
Yes, it’s in my office at work. Shut up.
Yesterday, I took it for its first test ride, which was incidentally, my first time on a motorcycle.
It’s small, it’s light, it doesn’t have much power, and I adore it. Still need rear turn signals (and a motorcycle license), but once those things are addressed, and I have a little more practice under my belt, I’m going to be getting to work on this thing when the weather is agreeable.
I’ve already got the esentials with regards to safety gear, as well, so now it’s practice, practice, practice.

Wow, that looks kinda familiar! It’s similar to my father’s bike, which I’m sorry to say has been collecting dust for about 3 decades now. I should ask him about it...

Wow, that’s a nice looking bike. I dig it.

nice! Do the MSF course if it’s available locally (my state DMV offers it and you get your endorsement upon completion) It’s well worth it.

Yes, you should. A great little toy. I don’t know if you currently ride or not, but if not, this thing is just rediculously easy to get on and go.

Thanks, I’m pleased with it. I really should have painted the frame as well while it was apart, but I wanted to make sure it was solid beforehand so maybe I’ll tackle that project over the winter.

I’m planning on it. They have classes almost every weekend and it’s the same here in that you get your M endorsement at the end, assuming you pass.

I’ve never been a rider, but it saddens me to see it wasting away (at least it’s in a garage). I wonder what it would take to get it running again. Could be a fun project.

If it ran when it was put up, maybe just a carb cleaning and some fresh gas. I love bringing things back to life.

Very nice! Check out Common Motor Collective I you need parts. I’ve purchased a few things from them for a ‘73 CL450 I got up and running. They send you cool beer coozies and stickers too!

I remember him saying that the tank was all rusted inside last time he looked at it. It would have to be replaced, or maybe there’s a way of cleaning it out. Aside from that, you’re probably right about the carb, and I’m sure the battery is junk, too.

awesome. Welcome to motorcycling! Nice looking Honda, been thinking about something similar to putz around town and teach my wife on. I want her to have a basic understanding of how to operate one before taking the MSF course. I think she’ll learn more from the course if she’s not preoccupied learning that aspect of it...she doesn’t know much about manual shifting.
Some insurance companies offer a discount if you take the course, so yet another plus.

Just take the tank off, fill it up with white vinegar and let it sit overnight. Spray it out with a hose the next day and it’ll be clean as a whistle.

You didn’t even get a divorce with it? Or she doesn’t know yet? Either way, I’m glad you’re having fun. Riding a motorbike is amazing.

She has yet to notice it’s not a moped.

I love it! Now I kind of want one.
